The IZMF Information Centre for Mobile Communications (Informationszentrum Mobilfunk e.V.)

Dialogue partner and information service provider for mobile communications

The IZMF Information Centre for Mobile Communications offers information about mobile communications to the public at large, the media and to public and private institutions. It is a registered non-profit association and was founded by the German mobile network operators in 2001.

“Mobile communication is a key technology that plays a dominant role in our work and private life. Its importance will continue to grow”, says Dagmar Wiebusch, secretary of the association. “That is why we want to foster and intensify communication about mobile telephony between stakeholders. We want to become the place where they can exchange ideas. The aim of the IZMF is to meet public demand for comprehensive information about mobile telephony. Speedy technical developments in mobile communications have given rise to a huge range of questions and we want to provide the answers”, Wiebusch explains.

The IZMF provides the latest facts and extensive background information, especially on questions of mobile telephony and health. By organizing expert forums, discussion roundtables and workshops, as well as presentations at trade fairs and conferences, the IZMF facilitates communication. Additionally, it offers an information resource, including brochures, newsletters and an extensive internet portal.

The IZMF also aims to increase competence with this new form of communication. The “Schulprojekt Mobilfunk”, a school initiative on mobile communications, provides pupils with important knowledge about the use of mobile phones. The project comprises both teaching materials for different age groups and training sessions for teachers. Additional material is also available for helping parents.

The IZMF’s special prize for mobile communications, “Sonderpreis Mobilfunk”, encourages young people to innovate in mobile technologies. The prize has been awarded annually at the “Jugend forscht” regional youth science competitions since 2006 and since 2011 at the “Jugend forscht” national competition.
